Visit the Village in Gatlinburg, A Must See When in Tennessee
Planning to visit Gatlinburg soon? Don’t miss out on The Village.
Located on the Parkway at traffic light #6, The Village offers over 27 unique shops, eateries and galleries. There truly is something for everyone. Spend the afternoon walking through a place reminiscent of an old-world village. With it’s beautiful European-style architecture you will feel like you’ve been transported to a quaint little town.
The Beginning
The Village begins with the land being purchased by two families in 1965 and construction of the first 18 shops being completed by 1970. The remaining 9 shops were added in 1982 to complete the area as guests see it today.
One of the most interesting things about the construction of The Village is the sourced materials from old homes, churches and buildings that were being demolished yielding some of the unique structural elements seen today. Thick roofing tiles, heavy carved doors and antique trim moldings, and more, were acquired to add authenticity to the European-themed attraction.
Shopping in The Village
Shopping in The Village offers lots of variety including classic places like The Hayloft and The Hayloft Comfort Footwear. The Hayloft specializes in Moccasins for men, women and children. It’s second store offers shoes from Born, Naot, MBT, Keen and more. Candle Cottage is another classic shop with a wide variety of candles in all shapes and sizes. It is Gatlinburg’s largest and most complete candle shop.
Other shops include, Toy Crazy and is praised as Gatlinburg’s coolest toy store. The Sock Shop offers a huge variety of fun, crazy and cool socks. Misty Mountain Soap Co specializes in handmade soaps lotions and bath products.
Eating in The Village
You cannot mention eating in The Village without mentioning The Donut Friar. Opening daily at 5 am it’s the best place to find donuts, cinnamon bread (to rival a certain theme park) and pastries. But bring cash! There is an ATM located on the property because this place only takes cash.
