Planning a trip to the Smoky Mountains, for just the two of you?  Looking forward to unplugging and spending time with only each other? Thankfully, there’s plenty to do in our area without going into the crowds.

Avoiding public spaces, like busy lobbies & reservation areas, can be easier than you think on your trip to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge.  American Patriot Getaways makes checking in to your cabin fast, easy, and keeps your interaction with our staff at a minimum. By getting a text message check in and using the personal lock box at your cabin, you won’t even need to stop by our office.

Rest easy knowing your cabin has been professionally cleaned before your check-in.  All hot tubs are drained and cleaned before being refilled. Linens in the cabin are brought to our professional commercial laundry facility and washed before being sent out.  You’ll even have a starter pack of soaps and dish detergent if you’d prefer to rewash anything before you stay.

If you’re planning to visit a mountain cabin right now to avoid the crowds, we have a two-day couples Itinerary for your stay.

Day 1 –

Begin the day by whipping up a tasty breakfast in your mountain cabin.  Each of our cabins comes with a fully equipped kitchen to make meal prep easy.  Whether you brought your own groceries or picked up a few in one of our area grocery stores, you can relax on your cabin’s deck.  Breathe the fresh mountain air and listen to the spring birdsong before heading out for the day.

Call ahead to Old Dad’s or Parton’s Deli – two local favorites for a picnic lunch – and grab your meal before heading out to the mountains.  If you’re feeling adventurous, head out to hike one of the more than 800 miles of maintained hiking trails in the park.  With plenty of trails for all ages and abilities, the Smokies has a trail for everyone.

For Springtime, we recommend taking a wildflower walk.  One of our favorites is hitting the Little River Trail.

Located in the historic Elkmont District, Little River Trail is wide and well-graded.  It is the perfect walk for visitors of all ages.

Park in either parking lot located in the Daisy Town area.  Little River Trailhead is hard to miss at the bottom of the lot.

Spring beauties and trailing arbutus are the early flowers, which give way to stonecrop, dwarf cirquefoil, Canadian violet, and hepaticas.

Walk out 2.5 miles on this easy trail to Huskey Branch Falls before returning to your car.  You’ll be glad you did.

Afterward, enjoy your picnic lunch in Daisytown near the parking area.  This once very posh neighborhood was home to the cream of Knoxville society in the early 1900s.  Always follow signs and don’t enter the homes. Many are in poor repair and unstable inside. The former site of the Appalachian Clubhouse, the large structure near the end of the neighborhood, has a porch filled with rocking chairs to enjoy the afternoon.

On your way back in to town, call in a carryout order at one of the amazing burger restaurants we have in the area.

Back at the cabin, rest your tired muscles from your hike by relaxing in your private cabin hot tub.  Take in the mountain views and unwind before heading inside for a restful evening.

Day 2 –

After another relaxing morning in your cabin, head out for a little pampering.  Sevierville Massage Therapy is a locally owned and clean, private massage studio.  With a large menu of varied services, there’s plenty of relaxation to be had.  If you’d rather not venture out, consider having a massage or spa service come to your cabin.  Gatlinburg Mobile Massage and Beneficial to Life both come to area cabins.

If a massage or spa morning doesn’t sound like your kind of activity, why not try your hand at taking a morning fishing trip instead?  With packages for newbies and advanced fishermen alike, you’ll be sure to find a trip that interests you both. Check out Fly Fishing in the Smokies or Smoky Mountain Angler to see what’s available.

For lunch, use GrubHub to order some BBQ from one of our many local restaurants.  Take it on a picnic in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and then take one of the many scenic drives in the area.

If you want to stay close to Gatlinburg, we recommend the gorgeous Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail.

Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is a gem of the Smoky Mountains, TN. This road is 5.5 miles long and a one-way looped, narrowing road.

You’ll notice you’re driving through a quieter time of days past when you see all the well-preserved structures like old cabins and grist mills.  They’re quiet snippets of history.

Toward the end of the road, you’ll see one of the most popular waterfalls – The Place of a Thousand Trips.  This wet weather waterfall is particularly beautiful during rainy days. So even if the weather isn’t cooperating, you’ll still see beauty!

Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is open April through November.

In the evening, return to your cabin and whip up a tasty meal – maybe your catch of the day from your fishing trip – in the kitchen.  Since you had a relaxing morning, get competitive in the game room of your cabin. A fast-paced, competitive game of pool or foosball awaits for you and your sweetie.

On your day 3 morning, check out will be easy!  No stopping by our office. Simply place your keys back in the lock box and follow the text check out procedures.
